Quite often, the process IS the point.

The large language models behind ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude are at their operational core sophisticated pattern-matching systems trained on enormous quantities of text. They can summarize, translate, and simulate reasoning with a fluency that’s easy to mistake for understanding, but they don’t understand the text they generate in the way that a reader understands text. They don’t reason in the way that a student reasons through a problem. They don’t struggle and they don’t grow from struggle. Think about what it actually means to ask a student to write an essay. The essay isn’t the point. The point is what happens in the mind of the person producing it. The research that builds knowledge, the outlining that forces them to make priorities, the drafting that uncovers what one actually thinks, and the revision that sharpens it. Strip those processes away and what remains is a document. The cognitive work that was supposed to build something in the student never occurred. The student who was supposed to be changed by producing it is unchanged.
