MULLENWEG wrote and began WORDPRESS the software project.
MULLENWEG began and owns/controls AUTOMATTIC the company that owns/controls WordPress trademark and several related properties and entities including hosting services for WORDPRESS.
MULLENWEG owns/controls wordpress.org the main website for WORDPRESS software project.
WPENGINE is a company that offers competing hosting services for WORDPRESS and has reportedly generated billions of dollars revenue. WPENGINE has used the WORDPRESS trademark, but so have numerous other companies.
MULLENWEG seemingly singled-out and complained that WPENGINE has not contributed “enough” to WORDPRESS project, saying that “if you contributed $1 to WordPress you would be a bigger contributor than WPENGINE” or something similar.
MULLENWEG blocked WPENGINE from access to wordpress.org; MULLENWEG’s AUTOMATTIC company demanded WPENGINE stop using the trademark WORDPRESS.
Lawsuits. Injunctions. Legalinsania. Uncertainty. Harm all around.
This course of events does not seem correct nor fruitful.
